Partner Overview

New Community Corporation (NCC) in Newark, New Jersey, is one of the largest and most comprehensive community development organizations in the country. Founded in 1968 by Msgr. William Linder, then a young parish priest, NCC was born out of the civil unrest that spread through inner cities like Newark during the late 1960s. The mission of New Community is to help inner-city residents improve the quality of their lives to reflect individual God-given dignity and personal achievement.

Service Overview

New Community’s programs include a one-stop Family Resource Success Center that serves thousands of clients annually with everything from emergency food assistance to help paying utility bills.

-A 102-family transitional housing facility for the homeless, called Harmony House, serves hundreds of family every year, most of them single mothers and children.
-Clients are provided with a host of on-site support services like child care, job search and workshops intended to help with goal-setting and activities of daily living.
-New Community also owns and manages more than 2,000 units of housing for seniors and families in Newark, Orange and Jersey City, ranging from high-rises for the elderly to family townhouses.
